Cut Down Your Dog’s Excessive Barking with an Anti Bark Dog Collar
August 18th, 2010    Subscribe To Our FeedAfter his workshift, Mark comes home to his Labrador, Gabriel. Gabriel is just as excited for attention, and waits for his master to open the door upon his arrival from work.
Mark plays with his dog, even before he takes off his shoes.
It wasn’t always this good. There was a time when Mark’s neighbors phoned him at work, everyday, about Gabriel’s incessant barking. There were even nights when Mark thought of giving up on his dog, having been awakened at midnight by his barking. It took some online surfing, but a solution - an anti bark dog collar - was found to be effective.
Curbing that incessant barking
Any responsible dog owner would want to curtail his dog’s annoying, loud barking.
Unless you can always spare time from work, you don’t want to have to check up at home to calm your dog down.
Should you be taking your dog somewhere, riding your car, it’s more annoying when he barks like hell inside the vehicle.
You want to be able to put a stop to that barking, which is often accompanied by a restlessness that could claw up furniture and break things.
Mark found out, after some observation, and a day off from work, that Gabriel barked at other dogs being walked early in the morning, and in the afternoon. Since Mark couldn’t always be at home to hush his dog, some dog training tools were needed. Mark decided to look into dog conditioning tools.
An easy item to shop for
It was easy to decide on the size that fit Gabriel, so Mark just needed to choose a collar with a deterrent system he approved of for his dog.
Static collars mildly electrocuted the dog, or sent a vibration. A liquid that got sprayed near the dog’s nose - the spray type.
Ultrasonic ones emitted a high pitched sound. Each of these posed no harm to the dog, but Mark settled on a spray type. He had learned through is online search that the spray was the probably the humane treatment.
After a few days of wearing the anti bark dog collar, Gabriel calmed down.
Training Your Dog To Use A Leash
August 14th, 2010    Subscribe To Our FeedThere are several kinds of collars and leashes you can choose from for your pooch. We encourage people to begin using some sort of collar from the time the pup is about 7 to 10 weeks old. We suggest using some type of soft cotton collar and put it on and take it off several times a day just to get them used to wearing a collar.
Once the puppy stops scratching at his neck you can attach a soft light line to his collar and let him drag it around the house. It is necessary to watch him carefully when he does this so he doesn’t get snagged on something and get hurt. Most of the time your pet will get used to the line within a few days. Once he is accustomed to the line dragging behind him it is time to pick up the other end and walk him around the house. If your dog [sits down|stops walking} when you hold the other end of the line, don’t pull on the leash, just try to get him to come to you by waving at him or calling him until he gets up and walks.
When he finally walks and moves with you, praise him wildly and even a treat. Make his time on the leash a positive experience. You can try to drop your end of the leash from time to time so there is not always tension on the line. When you notice you puppy moving well with you while he’s on the leash, treat him to a play session. The more secure and happy your pup feels when the leash is attached, the better it’s going to be for you and your pooch in the future. If you practice this routine inside your house with your puppy, then it will pay off when you want to go outside and walk with your dog.
Puppies should be trained using a long line for a couple of reasons. first a long line gets your puppy used to you having an influence on him from far away. A short leash almost always makes the animal pull on the end of it creating tension. There are several types of materials that are suitable to use in a long leash including cotton, nylon and leather. The extendible type leashes are great for lavatory walks and training the ‘come’ command, however, they do not provide good control in busy scenarios.
Once your puppy is fully grown you can look for a quality leather collar. A good custom leather dog collars will last for years and is easy to take care of. Some of the best leather dog collars are ‘made to order’ and are frequently found online. With a custom leather collar you can personalize it to fit you and your dogs personality. From rhinestones to decorative elements, you can get a gorgeous unique collar.

How To Source Good Training For Dogs In The Locality
August 11th, 2010    Subscribe To Our FeedEveryone loves their darling pets no matter how they behave. However, we do tend to spoil these wonderful pets to the point where it can be difficult for them to survive. For those people who just do not know where to start, try entering ‘Dog training Minneapolis st paul’ or ‘dog trainers Minneapolis st.paul’ into an internet search engine to view which kennels or breeders offer have pups or services for sale.
Most of these services will certainly have a common goal. They offer to take the pet, teach it some basic manners and then teach the owner how to keep on with this kind of behavior. But for people who want a more controlled pet, they can actually get some advanced education for the animal so that it can be controlled even when it is not on a leash. Indeed, many pets come home with the ability to respect the owner as the alpha male of the house and give him or her that respect.
Many canines have the nasty habit of jumping up to the table or begging for food while people are eating at the table. Although this may be cute for the family at times, when guests come to stay this can be rather embarrassing and unfortunate since they will not know what to do to stop the pet. So disallowing this kind of behavior is probably one of the best disciplines to instill within whatever pet it is.
But the advance classes will also offer to make the dog obey all the commands even should it be too excited to listen. This works particularly well if the animal is let go in a park or public area or if it has inadvertently run into the road area. Some pets are so well disciplined that the owner can get them to stop and drop exactly where they are to avoid it being hit by a car. If the education can get up to this level then both the owner and the pet will certainly have a better time with each other.
The first place to start, obviously, is to actually choose the breed that is suited to the family. If it is merely as a pet, then small animals will fit in much better. However, if there is an aspect of security involved then the larger and more intelligent breeds will act as security.
Again, the kennels will be able to advise what breed would fit which situation, but when choosing from a breeder, make sure that they are indeed licensed to look after such pets. It is unfortunate that some people do not love this kind of pet, but rather they just want to make money without a thought for the poor animal in question or the person who is buying it. These kind of venues will not produce the best pets at all.
Another point to watch out for is that some animals have a tendency to have some defects that are usual within each breed. Hip defects are quite common in the larger breeds but those who know how will actually breed this defect out of them by choosing only the healthiest of animals to breed. It is much better to have a guarantee that proper breeding techniques are used at all times.
Picking The Best Dog Collar For Your Pooch
August 9th, 2010    Subscribe To Our FeedWhen shopping for a collar for your dog there are numerous types available on the market today and finding the correct one for your pooch may not be easy. Actually, no one particular collar is the right one for every dog. So, taking the time to research the different types of collars available and how they are used is an essential part of finding the correct collar for your pet. That being said let’s examine some of the most commonly used collars.
Leather Collars
These collars are one of the sturdiest and longest lasting collars available. They come in several styles and sizes which range from the narrower rolled leather collar to wide 2 inch collars. Leather collars can be just plain leather or embellished with rhinestones, studs or decorative conch. You can even find customized leather dog collars with your pets name in letters that slide onto the collar.
A rolled leather collar is perfect for small dogs and can prevent the hair breakage that can be caused by the flat leather collars. They are usually softer and more comfortable for your dog. They fasten with a buckle and come with several holes so you can adjust the size as your dogs neck gets bigger.Although leather collars are more expensive than a standard nylon collar they are well worth it because they are much better quality and will last longer.
Flat Buckle Collar
This collar is usually made of colorful nylon and is available in different sizes and thicknesses and is an easy fit to any size dog. They can also be made of leather or cotton. No matter what other kind of collar you choose for your dog this is an excellent collar for your pet to wear as it is easy to attach medical and identifying information to this collar. It is also the best collar to use on a young puppy to get them used to wearing a collar.
For many dogs this will be the only type of collar you will ever need. To make sure this collar fits properly it should be placed high on the neck and you should be able to slip two fingers between the collar and the dogs neck. A too tight collar may interfere with your pets ability to eat or breath and having one that is too loose will make it possible for him to slip out of the collar. So adjusting this type of collar is important.
The Slide Choke Chain
The slide choke chain commonly called a choke collar is designed for training your dog. This collar will pinch the bronchial nerve in your dogs neck if he tugs on the leash while being walked. This collar must be used properly or it can damage your dogs trachea. Additionally, do not leave a dog unsupervised while wearing this type of collar or the collar could get hung up on a tree limb, fence or other obstacle and the dog could choke to death.
If you plan to use this type of collar for training your dog then you should seek a professionals advice on how to properly use this collar. You should remove this collar when you have finished your training session and replace it with a flat collar or some other safe collar.
Break Away Collar
The break away collar is becoming more popular with people who leave their dog outside in a fenced in yard to play. These collars let you attach tags with medical information and identification in case the dog should somehow escape the enclosure and also provides a margin of safety in case he gets hung up while playing.
This collar is specifically designed with a special mechanism so if too much pressure is applied to the collar the collar will release, freeing the dog and thus preventing accidental hanging of your dog. For this reason it is a poor training collar as a quick tug on the collar could allow the dog to break loose.
There are a lot more collars you can choose from, these are just some of the most popular. They should get you started on your way to figuring out which dog collar is right for your beloved pet.
