Puppy Training Suggestions And Secrets
January 25th, 2012    Subscribe To Our FeedPuppy training is an important aspect of dog guardianship, and one that provides a number of benefits. The obvious one of course is that you’ll have a disciplined, easy to manage dog. But training is more than just that, it is an excellent way of bonding with your dog and is also a great for providing the dog with mental and physical stimulation. And, believe it or not, puppy training can also be a whole lot of fun if you do it right.
The first dog training challenge is usually potty training, often a cause for exasperation, but actually a relatively simple task. The key is patience an persistence. Remember that a puppy is only a baby. You wouldn’t expect a human baby to get it right first time would you?
Just choose a method that is known to work, apply it diligently, and the results will follow.
And speaking of method, the three most popular house-training techniques are crate training, the paper method, and the supervision method. Of these, I find crate training to be the easiest and most effective. However, you should choose the method that works for you.
Provided you started house training at the recommended 10 week mark, your pup will now be 12weeks old, housebroken, and at the ideal age to start obedience training.
Before you get started, make a little commitment to yourself and to your dog. commit to patience, persistence and the work and hours required to make a success of this.
Promise yourself that you will remain calm and positive, and that there will be no yelling or punishment. Commit to making training a fun time that you spend with your dog. This will accelerate your success and make training a pleasure, rather than a chore.
The first thing you’ll want to teach your puppy is his name. This is easily achieved. All it takes is repeating the names at every opportunity. Use it when you play and talk to him, when you give him a treat, and especially when you praise him. Use a pleasant, cheerful voice and he’ll pick it up even quicker.
With that out of the way, you can move on to the first obedience command, “sit.” To do this, stand (or kneel) facing the dog, with a treat in your hand. Raise the treat to about the dog’s line of sight, and then slowly towards him. He’ll be forced to sit in order to keep watching the treat. The minute his butt hits the floor, say “sit”, then immediately give him the treat and lots of praise.
This command is a basic building block of dog training and from here you can go on to other obedience commands like stay, lie down, come to me, etc. You can even eventually get into trick and agility training, which is where the real fun starts.

Five Basic Things Ever Dog Needs
January 24th, 2012    Subscribe To Our FeedIf you’ve just adopted a dog then I’d like to thank you for giving this wonderful animal a second chance in life. But with the joy that your new companion brings there is also a lot of responsibility, and many things you will need to take care of.
In this article I’ll cover five of your most important responsibilities as a dog guardian. Get these right and you’ll be well on your way to giving your new friend the life he deserves.
The Best Nutrition
Let’s start off by talking about nutrition. In this regard, you have three broad options, you can cook for your dog, you can feed your dog a raw diet, or you can feed your dog a dry kibble. Due to time constraints the vast majority of dog owners will opt for feeding their dogs a pre-packaged kibble. No problem with that of course, but the quality of these foods vary greatly. It is always best to feed your dog a quality brand, which will usually be a premium or super premium product. Discuss this with your vet before deciding.
Medical Care
You are responsible for ensuring that that your puppy gets all his shots, and then has yearly check-ups, and follow up vaccinations. You will also have to ensure that, if your dog suffers from a serious illness or injury, you are able to pay for veterinary care. This can be extremely expensive and I would strongly advise you to consider taking out medical insurance.
Exercise
Whether you have a hyperactive terrier or a laid-back mastiff, your dog needs exercise! Make sure that you have time in your busy schedule to walk the dog, and the fitness levels required to keep up.
Choose a breed that matches your own level of activity and time availability. Don’t, for example, choose a dog that needs hours of activity per day if all you can spare is 30 minutes. You’re just setting yourself up for a major problem.
Dog TrainingLike exercise, all dogs need at least basic obedience training, and most dogs actually enjoy learning new things. Training provides your dog with mental stimulation, discipline and exercise. It teaches him his place in the pack and contributes to bonding.
Use a proven methodology, like clicker training, to train your dog. And always use a positive, reward-based approach.
Love, Affection and Companionship
Dogs are pack animals used to living in a social structure. They are only happy when they can interact with others. Depriving your dog of companionship and affection is incredibly cruel. He needs to be close to his family, not locked outside on his own.
By addressing your dog’s needs in these five areas you’ll be giving your him the life he deserved. The payoff? A lifetime of fun, joy and companionship with your best friend.

The Right Age For Training Your New Puppy.

To stop your dog from jumping up on you, push him back firmly with your knee and tell him “NO” in a firm and commanding voice. As soon as his feet are on the floor, pet him with your hands and praise him for being a good dog with his feet on the floor.
Start training your dog as early in its life as possible, but not younger than about seven weeks. This helps build an early bond between you as the owner and trainer and the dog. However, starting too early will simply overstress the dog; a very young puppy won’t learn anything from training sessions.
When training your pooch, patience is a virtue. All dogs learn at their own pace, and getting frustrated with your pet often adds to the dog’s confusion. Avoid punishing your dog for misbehavior and offer rewards for good behavior instead. Dogs love treats, but you can also reinforce the desired behavior with love and affection.
As you begin the dog training process, make sure to reward your pet when they perform desirable behaviors. Although discipline is necessary at times, the more you are able to praise your dog, the better your relationship will be. A good relationship means that your animal will want to follow your directions and the training process will be much easier.
When you train your dog, you don’t have to train him to do exactly what your training book or video says he should do; however, you must train him to behave in a way that will fit in well with your family. You must train him in such a way that you can take him for a walk or to the vet without a lot of drama. By determining exactly what sort of behavior you need from your dog and then working consistently to attain that behavior, you will support your dog in having a happier and more successful life.
Although a well trained dog can be taught to put up with just about anything, there will be times and situations where they are truly uncomfortable with a person, another animal, or a place. Don’t force your dog to suffer through more of this discomfort than is absolutely necessary. There is a reason that they are uncomfortable and you need to determine that reason.
Establish a calm environment when you enter a room that your dog is in. Play time is good to have with your pet, however, your dog should remain calm when you enter the room. Do not acknowledge the animal when you enter and by doing so you create a controlled atmosphere in which you decide how and when play time begins.
When training a pet, it’s best to start out by giving them a treat every time they do what you want them to. After they get the hang of it, back off the treats and only give them a treat 75% of the time, and continue reducing treats until they only get one occasionally.
Every dog needs a calm and confident leader to feel secure. Any dog owner can show that he is a strong leader by encouraging and rewarding good behavior. Proving to your pet that you’re a strong leader makes training easier and establishes a bond between pet and owner.
When training your dog to stay, take baby steps. First tell her to sit or lie down. When she has held that position for a couple of seconds, tell her to stay. If she stays longer, give her a treat. Allow her to move again, and repeat the process, rewarding her after she stays a bit longer with each repetition.
One of the worst distractions for your dog can be hormones, which mean neutering or spaying your pet is essential. When dogs are encumbered with hormones, they have trouble focusing on training and leadership from you. With this distraction removed you will have a more docile and receptive pet willing to follow your lead.
When housebreaking a dog it is quite important for him to know that when he went potty outside that you are proud of him. Give him a treat and some attention as soon as he has done his business. Do not just let him go about his business while you go about yours.
Consistency is key in effective dog training. Make sure that all of your family members use the same commands and remain on the same page when it comes to training. Your dog will better understand then commands, you will avoid confusion, and it will take less time to achieve your training goals.
There are many different ways to train your dog, but using your own way that you put together from books and articles like this one is generally successful. Take the following tips from this article and apply them to give you an easier time when training your dog. If you want to know more about the secret to dog training, then read up more about how to train your dog to sit today.

Training Your Dog Is Simple With These Helpful Tricks
January 21st, 2012    Subscribe To Our FeedMany dog owners erroneously assume that their dogs will benefit from a flexible environment free of rules. Nothing could be further from the truth. All dogs should have fun, but with the guidance and encouragement of their owners. A regular training routine can help build a proper relationship between you and your dog. Your dog’s anxiety can be replaced with confidence with just a little work! This article has tips to build a solid training routine for your pet.
When your dog is acting like a brat, cut off attention immediately. This is hard to do for some people, and encompasses more than you likely think it does. This includes foregoing nudging the dog away when he is playfully mouthing and even avoiding instructing or even looking at a dog that is demanding attention. Any attention at all may encourage your dog to keep up the bratty behavior! Reward him once he calms down instead.
Have a treat ready to reward your dog after it completes a task you ask it to properly. You want your dog to recognize that when you give it a command and it does the task that it is doing what you want it to do. This is the best way to ensure that the dog understands the difference between right and wrong.
If your dog is being destructive when unattended, it is likely a sign that he is not getting the physical exercise that a dog needs. Find a class that you and your dog can enroll in together and you are sure to find that it is fun and he will be far less destructive when you leave him.
A good dog training tip is to always keep chocolate out of your dog’s reach. Chocolate is highly poisonous to dogs, but that won’t stop them from eating it. Onions are also not good for dogs so it’s best to keep them away too. Never leave chocolate lying around.
Not all dogs are comfortable around other dogs or people. The best way to train your dog to be more comfortable around other animals or people is to expose them to as many people and other dogs as often as possible, preferably earlier in their life. This will make them accustomed to being around others.
Make sure you are not giving your dog the wrong signals when he behaves badly. If you show amusement to your pet when he is doing something that he should not do, he will probably repeat that behavior again. This will seriously delay your training process and lead to quite a bit of frustration for you. No matter how entertaining your dog is when he misbehaves, you must consistently correct him.
Generosity towards your dog goes a long way when you are trying to train your pet. Reward your pooch where rewarding is due and don’t be stingy with the doggie treats. You and your pet both deserve a reward for all your hard work and make sure to put enough time aside for your dog’s training.
As you can see from the article, it is possible to train your dog to be a good member of the family. It just takes patience, diligence and repetition. Your furry little friend will be the smartest on the block in no time at all and everyone will be asking you how you did it. Then you can direct them to these tips.

Tools that Make Dog Training Simpler
January 20th, 2012    Subscribe To Our FeedYou want to discover more about dog training tip because you have an obvious need to know – we get it.
It is usually not enough to learn enough or know enough just to get by with anything. All of us have the experience at one time or another of feeling an attraction to know more about something. So then, in our attempt to gain more knowledge or mitigate the effects, we thus begin our journey of discovery.
Our talk here will certainly not be comprehensive, but it will advance your knowledge base – that is for sure.
Using the best tools for dog training can make life much simpler–both for you and for your dog. You can often teach your dog something a lot more quickly when you have the right tool at your disposal, whether it’s a collar, leash, clicker or anything else. The things we are going to talk about in this article are examples of things that will often help you get much better results when you want to train your dog.
Many dog owners have enjoyed using Premier Manners Minder, a remote-controlled reward training system for canines. It allows you to reward dogs from a feeding tray from a distance. The purpose of the system is to help you train your dog to stop barking, or jumping when people walk by your home. Positive reinforcement is very important, and this program helps you understand how it motivates good behavior in dogs. The advantage is that you can give out the rewards from a distance. You don’t have to walk around with treats in your hand, as they will be stored in the machine.
Some dog owners could use a device to help keep their dogs out of places that they shouldn’t be, without the owner lifting a finger to do this. For instance, if your dog is inside, they may try to jump on your sofa or go into rooms that they do not belong in. To help your dog avoid this type of behavior, the Tattle Tale Sonic Pet Training Alarm can really help you out.
This device can go anywhere. Just add batteries, turn it on, and it will start preventing your dogs from doing the wrong things. To prevent your dog from going into certain areas, the device lets off a sound that they cannot stand. There are a couple of settings on this device. Either one will work just fine in making sure that your dog does not go where it is not supposed to be.
A really good and high quality dog leash can be a very useful tool for training. Where length is concerned, between 20 and 50 feet is a good goal. This offers you better control while still giving you the ability to train your dog as if he was off leash. Until your dog is absolutely trained, you are going to want to make sure that you keep him controlled and the only true way to do that is by using a leash. The typical shorter leashes, though, don’t let your dog do any real running. Your only other real option is to complete your training inside but there are major limitations to that too. If what you want is control as well as space, the only real way to achieve that and get the most from your dog training is to employ the long and sturdy leash.
Dog training tools are available in plenty of different varieties and these days you can find quite a few high tech tools as well as the very simple. While lots of these items can be very helpful in the training of your dog, never forget that the primary responsibility for getting the job done is yours. If you don’t commit your time and effort to train your dog, no tools will ever make up for that. Not to forget, the personalized dog collar is also a very useful form of training your dogs.
