The level of intelligence isn’t the only determining factor whether or not your pet requires border collie training. Although dog professionals assert that they are one of the most intelligent dog breeds, border collies need to undergo appropriate training in order for them to show behaviors acceptable by humans. Aside from that, training is also one of the most useful ways to avoid and get rid of numerous undesirable habits your canine friend might have picked up along the way.

Timely correction. Every bad habit has to be corrected. However, the correction has to be made as soon as you caught him in the act of doing the mistake. Correcting or punishing him several hours after the deed is done won’t make him understand what he’s being punished for. Like for example if you see a heap of poop near the couch, calling and hitting him with a rolled paper is not going to make him understand that he’s being reprimanded for committing accident. What he will think of is that, he gets punishment for coming to you hence will urge him not to obey the command the next time you call him to come. Your constant supervision is essential in fixing your pet’s bad habits.

Being consistent. Being consistent is another factor that can lead to effective dog training. Dogs are intelligent animals but they are only able to see black and white, there are no gray areas in between. In other words, if you need to eliminate your pet’s jumping habit, be consistent in implementing what you want. You can never get your dog to cease jumping up on you when you are dressed for a business meeting if you encourage the act when you’re on your pajamas. By being consistent to the rules you intend to carry out, you avoid confusing your pet thus helping him get away from that certain habit.

Never give in. The border collie is oftentimes|is usually deemed as tough dog considering their working potential, but like other dogs, they know how to use their charm to get what they want. Those brown eyes apparently asking for foods or those soft whimpers to allow him inside your bedroom can be more useless than helpful. If you are really serious with breaking his bad habits, you should know better than giving in to all his whims.
