Nowadays, training collars are a necessity for teaching dogs to behave, specially for occasions where visitors are involved. As we all know, dog behavior needs to be at its best because there are laws that prohibit loud and long barking dogs, as well as neighbors that don’t appreciate them either. Dogs, of course, have no knowledge of the rules and they just follow their instincts, which is why they need to be trained. The need for training collars is high and there are plenty of different options to choose from.

Choker Training Collars

Some people consider these training collars ethical while others prefer the old fashioned leash. They help when the dog pulls too hard on the leash and helps to correct other bad behavior too. These kinds of training collars can be used for daily walks with puppies and adolescent dogs as they are trained to socialize with people and other dogs. Dogs learn that by not launching themselves at anything that moves, the choking sensation that the collar gives will be gone. Some training collars even have protrusions that dig softly into the dog’s neck when he or she pulls too much on the leash. These types of collars also stop any sensation to the dog as soon as this one relaxes.

Electronic dog collars

These types of training collars emit a short shock which surprises the dog when it barks. The collar fits around the neck of the dog and the device from which the small electric shock comes from is placed directly in front of the dog’s throat. These collars are not cruel, since it’s not an electic shock, like the ones seen in cartoons, but a static feeling, similar to the one we get when we walk on carpets. These collars work very well while the owner supervises the dog, and should be taken off the dog when not in training, to allow it to rest.
