How important is the choice of your dog food? Most people don’t know how to read the ingredients list nor do they understand what they really mean.
The reason I started to research dog food was my six year old dog started to have seizures.. The commercial dog food companies have been hiding behind weak FDA rules for to long and now that I know the truth I must spread the word to every pet owner that will listen.
You can be at ease, I’m not going to try and sell you some high priced cure all healthy dog food. What I will do is show you how to pick the correct dog food based on knowing what the ingredients really are.
What would you say if I told you that just by feeding your dog correctly you could add over eight years to its life? That’s 8.3 more years of tail wagging, tongue liking unconditional love.
It was not easy sifting through the fiction to find the facts about what the ingredients listed in dog food really were. While it is true the FDA regulates dog food labeling, it does not use the same standards it uses for food prepared for people..
Because the FDA has written such weak labeling regulations the industry is able to add ingredients that are harmful to your dog and are added because the make the food taste better so that they’ll eat it.. Not to mention just plain deceive the pet owner by allowing the commercial pet food industry to play with words in their labeling.
For example a dog food named Chicken dog food would have around 70% chicken (of some sort) but if its named Chicken flavored dog food then it probably has 0% chicken of any kind in it.
If your dog food says with beef or beef nuggets or even beef dinner that means your food only contains 3% beef.
The FDA has helped the industry with its weak regulations, deceive the pet owners into thinking they are using quality ingredients, when in reality they use ingredients listed as not fit for human consumption..
Some companies in the commercial pet food industry are adding waste leftovers from human food processing plants to add protein to their dog foods. We could not eat these by-products so why would we want to feed it to our dogs?
The problem here is the FDA allows the pet food industry to label these ingredients in such a way that we think they are healthy. Everyone knows that eggs are a healthy source of protein and would be good to feed our dogs. So when you see an ingredient listed as Dried Egg Products that would be a healthy ingredient for your dog. The problem is this is a waste by-product from the egg industry that is not fit for human consumptions but legally sold as a dog food ingredient.
The problem is there are hundreds of ingredients listed on dog food labels that seem to mean one thing when in reality they mean something completely different.
Because of my finding during my many hours of research I now feed my dog’s homemade dog food, but I know this is not particle for everyone. If you are one that can’t switch to a homemade food, then it becomes even more important to learn how to correctly read a dog food label. The link below will take you to a website that I found that will explain every word listed on the label of the dog food you are using.
